SOUTH GLENS FALLS — A Queensbury man was jailed this week after he was charged with stealing a South High Marathon Dance donation jar from a business in the village, police said.
Chase A. Burnett, 50, of Dixon Road, was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for the March 1 theft of about $50 that was in the jar at an unspecified business, according to South Glens Falls Police. Police used surveillance video to help identify the thief, and Burnett later admitted being responsible.
Burnett was released pending prosecution in Moreau Town Court, but was then transported to Warren County Jail on a parole violation charge.
Burnett was formerly known as William T. Jones Jr., and is a five-time felon who was paroled from prison last Dec. 21 after serving a sentence for a 2011 grand larceny conviction in Warren County Court.
South Glens Falls Police Patrolman Phil Lindsey handled the case, assisted by state parole officers.
