GALWAY — A 26-year-old Ballston Spa woman was seriously injured and later charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol early Sunday morning.
Three others were also injured in the accident, including one who had to be transported to Albany Medical Center by helicopter.
Police reports said Kayla M. Baker was driving on Donnan Road at 12:06 a.m. when her 2004 Chevy Malibu sedan overturned in a ditch on the north side of Donnan Road. All four people in the car got out.
Baker was transported to Saratoga Hospital by Galway EMS with serious injuries to her upper body. She was transferred to Albany Medical Center.
One of the back seat passengers, 25-year-old Capri Fafard of Greenfield was transported by Life Net helicopter to Albany Medical Center with head injuries.
The front passenger, Kaila Miner, 21, of Greenfield Center, was transported to Saratoga Hospital for treatment of cuts. The other backseat passenger, Paige Norton, 21, of Ballston Spa, was also treated for cuts at Saratoga Hospital.
The initial investigation has identified alcohol and vehicular speed as contributing factors to the crash.
Baker was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana, unreasonable speed, reckless driving and several other vehicle and traffic law violations. She is scheduled to appear in Galway Town Court Jan. 11.
The crash is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit and additional charges may be filed.
