FORT EDWARD -- The Thursday moring fire at the Irving Tissue Corp. facility in Fort Edward did not impact the ongoing expansion at the factory, company officials said on Friday.
Firefighters from around the area responded to a fire at 11 a.m. Thursday that had started in a rewinder machine in the factory's main building and was quickly extinguished.
Company spokeswoman Mary Keith said regular operations at the plant had not been affected, including the planned expansion work that has been ongoing at the Eddy Street facility.
No injuries were initially reported and the building had been quickly evacuated, local and company officials said.
But an electrician who was investigating the cause of the fire in the machine was burned by an electric shock to three fingers later Thursday, Keith said. The man, who was not identified, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital.
The plant has been undergoing an expansion of multiple buildings to make room for a new paper machine to be installed later this year.
