INDIAN LAKE -- State forest rangers have posted notices along Adirondack trails warning hikers about aggressive black bears after a woman said she stabbed a bear that got too close.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reported the woman was hiking alone on the Northville-Placid Trail in Hamilton County Wednesday when three bears began following her. She made several attempts to scare them off, but they continued to follow her.
She told DEC officials one of the bears got too close, so she stabbed it with a knife. The bear fled. The woman wasn’t harmed.
Officials say it was one of several recent encounters with nuisance bears along that stretch of trail in the town of Indian Lake.
