FORT EDWARD — A Saratoga Springs woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly falsifying documents to try to get public assistance, police said.
Melissa J. Hunt, 52, was charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a felony, after an investigation by the Washington County Department of Social Services and Washington County Sheriff's Office, police said.
She is accused of proving false information to DSS last August to try to get temporary housing assistance, authorities said. The agency learned of the false information before any assistance was doled out.
Hunt was arraigned and released, pending prosecution in Fort Edward Town Court. Sheriff's Investigator Michael McWhorter made the arrest.
