MOREAU — After hosting an outdoor party Sunday night, State Police said a man was shot by his neighbor.
The victim, Michael Desnoyers, 35, of Laurel Road, suffered serious injuries in the shooting at about 9:45 p.m. He was transported to Albany Medical Center and is expected to survive, according to a State Police news release.
Joey M. Castro, 24, who lived next door to Desnoyers, was arrested and charged with first degree assault and first degree criminal use of a firearm, state police said.
The fight shocked another neighbor, who stressed that although Desnoyers hosts parties, she never expected anyone to shoot him over it.
“They’re a little more rowdy than the rest of the neighborhood,” said neighbor Melissa Root. “But you don’t expect something like this.”
Desnoyers would often turn on music in his front yard and invite people over, she said.
“You know, sound carries,” she said. “Music. People. Nothing that ever seemed dangerous.”
She saw him and others outside around 8 p.m. Sunday when she arrived home. She told her family to expect some noise that night.
Then, around 9:45 p.m., they heard something that wasn’t music.
“All we heard was some banging that we thought were fireworks,” she said. “Then my boyfriend, who’s in the fire department, called to make sure we were safe and our doors were locked.”
Later, State Police came by to interview them, in search of witnesses.
State Police flooded the short street, blocking it off and stretching crime tape across the lawns of both men’s houses. At least four evidence technicians were still working there Monday afternoon, searching the leaf-covered lawns for bullet casings and other evidence. They also searched both houses.
They did not release any possible motive.
Castro was arraigned in Moreau Town Court and remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of bail.
Moreau EMS responded to the scene and state police were assisted at the scene by Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
