WARRENSBURG — Police responded to a disturbance Thursday morning at an Elm Street residence for a report of a man who threatened a female with a gun.

Before police arrived, the suspect, Warren E. DeVoe, 31, fled the scene in a vehicle, but not before grabbing a shotgun from a bedroom and threatening the woman, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office.

The unknown whereabouts of DeVoe led to the temporary lockdown of Warrensburg Elementary School, police said.

Police said DeVoe returned to the scene minutes later without the shotgun and was taken into custody without further incident.

The unidentified victim, who had an order of protection, was unharmed, and the shotgun was recovered at a relative's home, police said.

Police charged DeVoe with three felonies, including first degree criminal contempt, third degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, and a misdemeanor count of second degree menacing.

He was arraigned in Warrensburg Town Court and was remanded to Warren County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. An additional order of protection was issued as well on behalf of the victim.
