FORT EDWARD — A Fort Edward man was jailed last week after he allegedly stole a neighbor's electric meter and had guns he was barred from having, police said.
Charles E. McDonough, 74, of Hunt Avenue, was arrested after the Oct. 4 incident, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Neighbors witnessed him pull an electric meter off a utility pole, and when police were called McDonough admitted taking it because he said the neighbors owed him money, police said.
McDonough was found to have several long guns, and he has at least one prior felony conviction that bars him from having firearms, according to the Sheriff's Office.
He was charged with felony criminal tampering, misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and petit larceny, arraigned and sent to Washington County Jail, police said.
Sheriff's deputies Kyle Kolar, John LaTour, Jennifer Noble and Cori Winch handled the case.
