FORT EDWARD — A Vermont man who was arrested in September for possessing heroin with intent to distribute during a traffic stop in Fort Ann has been sentenced to 3 years in state prison.
Benjamin O. Broughton, 37, of Bristol, Vermont, pleaded guilty last month in connection with the seizure of 100 packets of heroin and an unspecified amount of cocaine during the bust on Route 149 by State Police. He was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for traffic violations.
Broughton, who has a history of drug offenses in Vermont, was sentenced 3 years in state prison and 2 years on parole by Washington County Judge Kelly McKeighan. He pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Charges are still pending against the driver of the car, Brian M. Davidson, 35, of New Haven, Vermont. Police said he was found to be driving under the influence of drugs, leading to the heroin seizure from his passenger.
