QUEENSBURY — Carl R’s Cafe, a longtime Tex-Mex restaurant on Main Street, off Northway Exit 18, is closing.

The restaurant posted on Facebook that Sunday will be its last day in business.

Several customers leaving the restaurant on Friday said restaurant employees told them the restaurant is closing.

Restaurant employees would not comment to The Post-Star on Friday.

Owner Joe DeSantis, as of Friday afternoon, had not returned messages The Post-Star left with employees at the restaurant on Thursday and Friday, and left separately with an employee at his management office on Friday.

Carl R’s Café, named for Carl DeSantis, father of Joe, opened about 30 years ago.

It is the last of the DeSantis family restaurant operations that once numbered nine, including Howard Johnson’s and Red Coach Grill franchises.
