Bottom line, this guy was a wounded healer, who had heard countless horror stories about atrocities committed during the war, you couple that with his faith that seemed to get more strict in the end, then you end up with a head case with a grudge and a gun. Not to mention, the Army somehow didn't pick up on his cues.
Don't know if you know much about Psychologists and Psychotherapists, they need help too, and they are very prone to meltdowns due to the stress of their jobs.
