GRANVILLE -- A Granville man was charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday after he drove a pickup truck off DeKalb Road and it caught on fire, according to State Police.

Ricky Van Guilder II, 50, was charged after the 5:04 a.m. crash, police said.

He was heading west near Holcombville Road when the 1993 Chevrolet truck went off the road and became stuck, according to State Police.

Police said the truck caught fire as he tried to free it from an embankment.

Van Guilder was charged with misdemeanor DWI and ticketed for moving from his lane unsafely, police said. He was released pending prosecution in Granville Town Court.

It is fortunate that no one was hurt, but I hope that the crash serves as a warning about what can happen in a DWI crash.
