MILTON -- A longtime member of the Ballston Spa Central School District Board of Education faces three felony charges for allegedly collecting funds from Saratoga County for which she was not eligible.
Nancy Fodera, of 745 Malta Ave. Ext., was charged with third-degree grand larceny and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing following an investigation by the county Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services, said Warren County District Attorney Kate Hogan, whose office is prosecuting the case.
Prosecutors allege Fodera collected more than $6,000 from Saratoga County for a day care service she operated out of her home, despite the fact the business lost the necessary certifications to receive the funds.
The case was turned over to Hogan's office because two Saratoga County prosecutors sent their children to Fodera's day care, District Attorney James Murphy said.
According to the school district's website, Fodera was previously president of the Milton Terrace Parent-Teacher Association.
She served until 2009 as secretary to the Planning Board in Malta. The town's website listed her as an administrative assistant in the highway department as of Thursday.
Fodera was released on her own recognizance after her arrest and is due back in Milton Town Court Nov. 16.
