Name: Carole Lewis

Employer: Salem Farm Supply, Inc.
Current job title/responsibilities:
President and treasurer of Salem Farm Supply, Inc.
What is the best aspect of your job? Why?
I really enjoy working with the agricultural community. Agriculture plays such a vital role in all of our lives and it draws upon many disciplines, sometimes in unexpected ways. I am constantly learning new and interesting things from producers and co-workers; everything from the effects of Napoleon's defeat on the area's sheep-farming history to the use of lasers in animal feed nutrition. The ag industry is a great place for curious people!
Where did you go to school?
Cambridge Central and Bowdoin College
Why do you think this region is a good place to live and work?
Perhaps I am biased because I grew up around here, but I think this region has the perfect balance of nature and culture. You have the beauty of farmland and the Adirondacks, but you also have access to great institutions like SPAC and The Hyde Collection.
What one person has influenced you the most? Why?
My late father has had the greatest influence on my life. He dedicated much of his life to building Salem Farm Supply into the modern equipment dealership that it is today. I encounter his legacy every day at work and often ask myself, 'what would Dad do?' when I approach a difficult task. I also inherited my sense of humor from him, which I find a blessing but others may find a curse...
What is your biggest goal in life?
To lead a purposeful life and have fun in the process.
What do you do to relieve stress? How does it help?
I often go for walks or runs with my dog after work. I spend most of my day behind my desk, so the opportunity to be active outdoors is a great way to clear my mind.
What are your three favorite movies?
"Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Clue", "The Royal Tenenbaums"
Name a book that has influenced you? Why?
While I was in high school, my father had me read "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer. It is a fascinating read on human behavior and mass movements. It influenced how I approach politics and current events.
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be? Why?
I would like to be a minor character in the Harry Potter universe. It would be cool to have magical powers, but without the stress of fighting Voldemort.
What quote do you live by?
"I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best." — Oscar Wilde
