Village of Granville to host annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
GRANVILLE — The village of Granville and Granville Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Veterans Park starting at 6 p.m. Friday. This year’s theme will be “Granville’s Hallelujah.”
The program will be based upon Leonard Cohen’s popular song “Hallelujah,” with lead vocals provided by Paul Labas. Participation will be sought from choirs, choral groups, singers and patrons to form a 1,500- to 2,000-member choir in Veterans Park. All patrons will receive a battery-operated candle and written lyrics upon arrival to the park to make it easy to participate. Movement of the 40,000 lights in Veterans Park will be synchronized to the music.
A holiday parade will precede the Tree Lighting Ceremony, stepping off from the Great Meadow Federal Credit Union just before 6 p.m. Santa Claus makes his grand entrance by carriage, and his time with children will begin immediately after the tree lighting ceremony.
The Slate Valley Museum’s sixth annual Festival of Trees will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at 17 Water St. Opening night of the Festival of Trees celebration will also feature a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus in the early evening, a free hats and mittens tree for the children, delicious hot cocoa with cookies and a fun kid’s craft.
