GLENS FALLS — Michael J. "Hawk" Granger, 68, a resident of Glens Falls, passed away on Sunday Dec. 3, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his brothers and sisters.
He was born on May 28, 1949 in Glens Falls and was the son of the late Roger I. and Frances E. (Tracey) Granger Sr.
Michael, also nicknamed “The Hawk,” was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School and a lifelong resident of South Glens Falls. During his lifetime, he wore many hats. The one that was worn the most was for the restaurants along Main Street in South Glens Falls. Even though Michael never had any military service, he honored his father, a world war II veteran and his oldest brother, Peter who served during Vietnam, by joining and holding offices in the Sons of the American Legion and Glens Falls VFW. He also ran for a board seat at the Abraham Wing School. In his younger years, Michael was very community oriented teaching kids bicycle safety. Mike was also a member of the South Glens Falls Eagles Club and South Glens Falls Fire Company in honor of his uncle, Walter “Sparky” Tracey. Although Mike never married, he was blessed with many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. One of his favorite things to do and looked forward to do was hunting with his good friend Dick Kenny and cousin, Jim Tracey.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his oldest sister, Virginia (Ginny) French and his brother, Craig (Grange) Granger and brother in laws, Tim Doherty, Michael Lyons.
Survivors include his brothers, Peter T. (Olivia) Granger, Roger I. (Margie) Granger, Charles J. (Sherry) Granger; sisters, Diane (William) Wells, Michelle Lyons and her companion Denny, Terry (Doug) Heald and Mariann Murphy and her companion Rick Clark. He is also survived by a brother in law, Lawrence French.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
Calling hours are scheduled following the services on Wednesday until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
