QUEENSBURY — Larry Mellio Farenell, 66, of Queensbury, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Saratoga Springs, the son of the late Delaphine (Haynes) and Mellio J. Farenell, Jr.
He was a radio personality for WKAJ, WBZA, WENU, WWSC and WCKM. He most recently worked at The Chronicle as a sales representative and sports writer. His many interests included coaching softball. He coached Hunt’s Hurricanes for 23 years and also coached in the Tri County Softball League and Hudson Mohawk Softball League. Larry was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.
Larry was past president of the Glens Falls Bowling Association, past vice president and treasurer of the Queensbury All Sports Booster Club and past president of the Capital Region Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League.
Larry is survived by his wife, Julia (Lavery) Farenell of Queensbury; a daughter, Sheree Allen and her husband, Mark of Queensbury; a son, Andrew Farenell of Queensbury; two grandchildren, Skyler Allen and Kyan Allen of Queensbury; sister, Lynn Farenell of Ballston Spa; brother, Stephen Farenell of Saratoga Springs; brother-in-law, William Lavery and his wife, Darlene of Queensbury; sister-in-law, Virginia Tramposch and her husband, Thomas of Glens Falls. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.
