RIDGEWOOD, N.J and HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- James W. White of Ridgewood, N.J., and Hilton Head Island, S.C., died peacefully at home Wednesday, June 26, 2013. He was 87 years old.

He was born to James W. and Edith W. White of Paterson, N.J., and brother to Joan E. White of Pompton Plains, N.J.

He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Jane Hall White, who predeceased him; loving father of Maryjane and her husband, Martin Moynihan, of Ridgewood, Caroline W. White of Jersey City, Kitty and Dr. John Sconzo of Queensbury, N.Y., and James H. and Jennifer White of Ridgewood; dear grandfather of Martin Moynihan, Lawrence Sconzo, Andrew Sconzo, Michael Sconzo and Evan White; and stepgrandfather of Marlaina Rohmann.

He was a graduate of Blair Academy and Seton Hall University and an Army veteran of World War II.

For more than 47 years, he was the president of White & Shauger Inc. in Paterson, N.J. He was a member of Paterson Rotary Club for more than 50 years, a former board member of Paterson Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Board of Trustees at Paterson YMCA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NJ 07452.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 N. Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450, or

Hilton Head Island Humane Association, P.O. Box 21790, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925.
