CORINTH — Gerard G. Maurais, 89, of Harris Road, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 3, 2017 at the Pines at Glens Falls.
Born on April 8, 1928 in Berlin, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Amedee and Leonie (Ste. Pierre) Maurais. He was a graduate of Jay High School in Jay, Maine.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII as a Private First Class in the Pacific Theater of Operations and was issued the Honorable Service Lapel Button prior to his honorable discharge on Oct. 31, 1946.
He married Lorraine Y. Leger on July 1, 1950 in Lewiston, Maine. They resided in Jay, Maine until they moved their family to Corinth in 1973. Lorraine passed away Aug. 22, 2015 following 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Gerard worked for the International Paper Company in Jay, Maine, and Corinth for over 38 years, advancing to the position of superintendent of the paper mill. Gerard retired July 1, 1985.
Gerard enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of nature. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club.
He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife; his sisters, Marcelle Kendall, Germaine Swensen and Adrienne Kelley; and his brothers, Henry Maurais, Jean Paul Maurais and Amedee Maurais Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Denise Carella and her husband, Tom, of Fort Ann, and Monique McClure and her husband, Bill, of San Diego, California, and three sons, Marc Maurais, of Farmington, New Hampshire, Roger Maurais and his wife, Kathy, of Mansfield, Pennsylvania, and Louis Maurais and his wife, Julie, of Hadley; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; siblings, Aline (Raymond) Bryant of, Jay, Maine, Rachel (Marvin) Ellis, of Oklahoma, Bernard (Marilyn) Maurais, of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
Gerard was a loving and devoted husband, deeply cherishing his “bride” Lorraine. He was a loving father, and loyal friend. He was kind, gentle and generous in giving of his time and treasure.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Brewer Funeral Home Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Swain, pastor of Holy Mother and Child Parish, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
