Elizabeth “Jean” Matt

July 6, 1934 — December 31, 2017 FORT EDWARD — Elizabeth “Jean” Matt, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at Saratoga Center for Rehab, surrounded by her children.

Born on July 6, 1934 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Regner) Carpenter.

Jean attended Fort Edward High School. On July 10, 1954, she married Elwin “Bud” Matt at St. Joseph Church in Fort Edward. They spent 62 years together, until his passing on Sept. 8, 2016.

Jean spent her life caring for children, nieces, nephews, friends and grandchildren and was fortunate enough to care for her great-grandchildren. She has a lot of fond memories working as a teacher’s aide at Fort Edward Elementary School for many years.

Bud and Jean loved camping, traveling and going on long car rides and lunch dates when they could. She had a special love for casinos and slot machines. Later in life Jean cared graciously for her ailing husband. Jean had a beautiful voice and was a great dancer, but she especially loved to Jitter Bug with her sisters.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her brothers, John, Bill, Jim, Dick, Butch, Paul, Robert and Joe Carpenter; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Left of cherish her memory include her daughter, Linda Godfrey and husband, Tom of Fort Edward; son, Frank Matt of Glens Falls; grandchildren, Ian Godfrey and wife, Ashley of Stillwater, Emily Boucher and husband, Matthew of South Glens Falls, Steven Matt and wife, Lynette of South Glens Falls and Sarah Beth Matt; great-grandchildren, Elle and Matthew Boucher and Hunter and Cole Matt, all of South Glens Falls; her sisters, Helen O’Connell, Sally Trainor and her husband, Robert, Carolyn Cutter, Kay Loham, Jaqueline Pasterchick and her husband, Mike and Cindy Baker and her husband, Kenny; her brothers, Fran and Micky Carpenter; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Jean’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Joseph’s Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward.

Burial will be conducted in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Edward.
