D. Charles Scott Jr.

Nov. 7, 1966 — Sept. 9, 2017

EASTON — D. Charles Scott Jr., 50, a resident of Scott Road in Easton, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 9, 2017 at Albany Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 7, 1966. Charlie was the son of Donald C. Scott, Sr. and the late Diane F. Scott.

In addition to his mother, Charlie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fredrick and Jeannette Field; paternal grandparents, Charles and May Scott; and his cousin, Gregory Field, with whom Charlie was especially close.

Charlie was a graduate of Greenwich Central School. He attended Ithaca College on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in finance. He worked as a stockbroker until leaving the stock market to work in the family construction business, D.C. Scott, Inc. In recent years, Charlie was in the automobile business.

Charlie is survived by his father; his sister, Andrea Scott; his son, Gregory Scott; his stepdaughter, Lezzette Hughes; his aunts and uncles, Barbara Gaige, Leona (Alvin) Brownell, Joan (Wesley) Brownell, Donald Fredrick (Barbara) Field and Carol (Charles) Roosa. Charlie is also survived by numerous cousins and friends. He is survived by his close friend, Chris Weir, with whom Charlie had been friends since their school days. Family often described Charlie and Chris as brothers.

Charlie’s enjoyment of sports was lifelong. He was a referee for local youth football games, a strong supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the Dallas Cowboys, and passed his love of golf on to his son, Greg. Charlie was a constant fixture at the little league field, following the multiple teams Greg played for over the years, even traveling the country with the Spring Renegades.

Charlie had a quick wit and a fantastic sense of humor. He enjoyed teasing others and always did it in good spirit. He had a distinct, infectious laugh and you knew you were in for some laughs if Charlie was around. At family parties, he would humor his aunts by accepting all the food they would send him home with. Charlie was one of a kind. He will be missed.

Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Flynn Bros. Funeral Home at 80 Main St., Greenwich. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Virginia Cornell officiating.

Interment at Easton Rural Cemetery on Meeting House Road will follow the service. Friends and family are invited to gather at the home of Donald C. Scott, Sr. after the cemetery service.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to Center for Donation and Transplant, 218 Great Oaks Blvd. Albany, NY 12203 or the Easton Greenwich Rescue Squad, 441 State Route 29, Greenwich, NY 12834 in Charlie’s memory.
