December 21, 1926 — March 12, 2018
GLENS FALLS — Barbara Jean (Parry) Leonard, 91, of Glens Falls, was received into the loving arms of the Lord on March 12, 2018.
Born Dec. 21, 1926 in South Granville, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Luella Parry.
Barbara attended Granville Central School, graduated the class of 1944 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Albany Medical School of Nursing. Nursing was more than a career for Barbara; she made a life out of caring for others. She had a kind word for everyone and had a way of making everyone feel special; family, friends and patients alike.
Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bunzy) Leonard; her son, Thomas Leonard; and her brother, Stanton Parry.
Survivors include her brother, Donald Parry (Geri); her children, Kathleen Petrikas (Jeff), John Leonard (Cindy) and Anne Nichols (James); and daughter-in-law, Claire Murphy (Brien); her grandchildren, Alison West (OC), Kasey Melucci (Dan), Heather Whitney (Tyler), Michael McMore, Kylie Culverhouse (Josh), Isaac Nichols, Isabelle Nichols and Gaibrial Nichols. She also had a special love for her great-grandchildren, Damon, Callon, Kameron, Hunter, Brandon, Tehren, Declan and Adrianna.
Barbara was devoted to the Catholic Church, friends and above all, family! She had many nieces and nephews, and nothing thrilled her more than getting pictures and updates from all of her many family members. She took the title of Mother and Grandmother very serious, and never missed a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. Newcomb and her family home in Orwell, Vermont, were two of her most treasured places. She was an avid reader and loved to share her books and papers with others. In later years, she loved to knit gifts for people and enjoyed visits from her family and her many friends.
Barbara was able to live independently until the last three weeks of her life, thanks to her many friends, neighbors and family.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Mary’s Church, Warren St., Glens Falls.
Barbara’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Foote for all of his help and guidance over the last several months. He has been a pillar of support for Barbara and her family.
Donations can be made in Barbara’s honor to Southern Adirondack Independent Living, 71 Glenwood Avenue, Queensbury, NY 12804.
