GLENS FALLS -- Barbara Jean “Barb” Atwell of Glens Falls, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the age of 66, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 30, 1946, in North Adams, Mass., the daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Shephard) Atwell.

Barb attended Adirondack Community College and, afterward, she was employed at Glens Falls Hospital as an internal auditor from 1965 until 1977. At that time, she founded her consulting group. She retired in 1987. Barb devoted her time to writing and published her novel “Pavelic Legacy” in 2005. Her interests were current events, reading, writing and travel, as well as being a professional graphologist. Barb was a very loving and caring person, who loved all animals, especially her feline friend, Angie.

She was predeceased by her parents and several siblings.

Barb is survived by her loving companion of 45 years, Gail M. Cahill, with whom she lived. She is also survived by her very good friends, Lucy Carley and Diana Eggelston; her siblings, Melvin Atwell and his wife, Muriel, of Belchertown, Mass., and Pastor Rick Atwell and his wife, Doreen, of Massachusetts, along with three other siblings, Earl Atwell, Steven Atwell and Candace McNeaney of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at the funeral home, with her brother, Pastor Rick Atwell, officiating.

Graveside services will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to Purrs and Paws, 3857 Route 9L, Lake George, NY 12845.
