By now, you have probably heard about Mitt Romney’s statements at a fundraising dinner with wealthy donors that 47 percent of people eligible to vote do not pay income taxes; that they are “dependent upon government” and “believe that they are victims” and will vote for Barack Obama “no matter what.” It’s true that about 47 percent of adults do not pay income taxes, although most pay other taxes, such as payroll, state, local, gas and sales taxes. Are you among this 47 percent? Do you think Gov. Romney was right that everyone who does not pay income tax is a committed backer of President Obama? Do you believe that members of this group can never be convinced to vote for Gov. Romney? Is it true that people who don’t pay income taxes can never be convinced to “take personal responsibility and care for their lives,” as Gov. Romney said?
