Chicago teachers have settled their contract and ended their strike, which lasted a week and a half. Although most states, including New York, allow collective bargaining by public employees such as teachers, New York and some other states prohibit public employees from going on strike. In other states, teachers are specifically forbidden to strike. Illinois allows teacher strikes, under certain conditions.
