First, Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there. We appreciate everything you do.
Just a couple things to review while we wait for Tuesday morning's Section II seeding meeting:
1. Spa Catholic coach Phonsey Lambert called Terrel Tillman's pitching performance vs. Hoosic Valley "Stauffer-esque," in reference to Saints grad and former Major Leaguer Tim Stauffer. Tillman threw just 83 pitches, struck out 13 and fired a one-hitter -- which Lambert said was a comebacker that Tillman nearly snagged.
2. If Queensbury's 11-0 win over Amsterdam in the Foothills Council championship wasn't proof enough the Spartans will be tough to beat in Class A, consider the fact they're averaging 9.8 runs per game.
3. Class B, of course, looks like a haunted forest -- and the aforementioned Saints are one of the scary-looking trees -- but don't discount Schuylerville. At 15-5, the Black Horses' only losses are to Class A Queensbury (twice), Class A South Glens Falls, Class AA Saratoga and Class C Hoosic Valley -- but the Indians are likely to be the No. 1 seed in that class.
4. How important is Jimmy Morris to Johnsburg? He's either figured into the pitching decision and/or had an extra-base hit in all of the games that have been reported to us. That's solid!
