The Phantoms practiced at the Civic Center on Thursday for the first time in a week. Many key players were missing, including three of the team's regular defensemen. To recap the carnage:
-- Blake Kessel is out at least two weeks with an upper-body injury.
-- Oskars Bartulis is also out and may miss a week or so.
-- Matt Walker remains out with a lower-body injury and doesn't seem to be as close to returning as last week, when he was labeled day-to-day.
That left the Phantoms with four healthy defensemen. In response, they will call up Tyler Hostetter from Trenton. They are also likely to reach out to Trenton's Andy Thomas, a non-contract player who spent nine games with Adirondack earlier this season.
The forward corps hasn't been spared losses, either.
-- The Flyers have recalled Eric Wellwood. He's in their lineup Thursday night against Buffalo.
-- Mike Testwuide is out at least for a week with an upper-body injury suffered Saturday.
It appears, however, the Phantoms may get a couple of fowards back:
-- Tye McGinn, also injured Saturday, skated and will be a gameday decision on Friday.
-- Andrew Rowe, who has missed the last couple of weeks, participated in the practice.
The thin roster will no doubt make the Phantoms' task tougher this weekend as they try to snap a four-game losing streak and 10 out of 12 skid.
