Phantoms head coach Terry Murray he is still thinking about what to do with the captains. He believes the team needs a captain in the dressing room and that one of the letter-wearers should be a forward.

"I'm not going to rush into it," he said. "With Ben's situation it's going to be important to me and to the team to have someone in the locker room who has a 'C' on his sweater."

Captain Ben Holmstrom is likely out for the season and the two alternates are both defensemen, Danny Syvret and Brandon Manning.

Murray said that he is considering giving the C to one of the alternates and naming another 'A,' but hasn't decided yet. He wants to talk to management before making the decision, but does want to have it figured out pretty soon.

When he named the original three captains, Murray said he wanted players who weren't likely to immediately leave for the NHL when the lockout ends. That could be part of what he wants to talk to management about, as they would typically not have a role in the naming of captains.

Murray said one of the key roles for the leadership group is helping to a team prepared mentally before a game, particularly between warm-ups and taking the ice. That is among the many things at which the Phantoms have been very inconsistent this season, and to Murray, it's one of the most important.

He said that is one of the reasons he is taking his time with the decision.
