Zack FitzGerald got in his first fight as a Phantom on Saturday, dropping the gloves with Syracuse's Radko Gudas. According to hockeyfights.com, FitzGerald has been in 95 fights in his eight years of professional hockey.
The defenseman, who stepped in as a forward in Saturday's game, says his role is to insert some energy into the game and sometimes that spark comes in the form of a fisticuffs.
Before joining the Phantoms this year, FitzGerald dropped the gloves with three of his current teammates: Mike Testwuide, Oliver Lauridsen and Tye McGinn. FitzGerald discussed each fight with his then-opponent after practice, Tuesday.
