New York ranked first in a ranking of the 10 Best States for Colleges Students compiled by the finance website MoneyRates.
The website rated the states based upon the number of choices for colleges and universities, the cost of attendance, student retention and graduation rate, according to a news release.
New York has 230 four-year colleges, which ranked first. It costs about $38,000 to attend a school in New York, which is more affordable than some of the other institutions ranked in the top 10, according to the report. New York had good graduation and retention rates.
The other states in the top 10 are in order: Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Nebraska, California, Washington, Michigan, Missouri and a tie between Illinois and Virginia to round out the list.
