The Independence Party of New York endorsed U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, for re-election earlier this week.
"We are proud to support Congresswoman Stefanik's re-election campaign for the 21st District," said Frank MacKay, chairman of the Independence Party of New York. The Independence Party of New York is a third party political organization with about 500,000 members.
The congresswoman is seeking her third two-year term, representing NY-21. And this endorsement gives Stefanik the Independence Party line for the November election.
"I am honored to earn the Independence Party's endorsement, and I will continue working hard to earn every vote this November," Stefanik said.
Still, the congresswoman faces opposition from Russell Finley of St. Lawrence County for the Republican nomination.
Currently, eight Democratic congressional challengers are vying for the Democratic nomination in a June primary.
Starting March 6, candidates can begin collecting petition signatures from Democratic registered voters. To get placed on the primary ballot, challengers must have at least 1,250 petition signatures.
