Fort Ann stats

I still keep stats the old-fashioned way, in a standard steno notebook. A stroke on the left for a goal, a stroke on the right for an assist.

As you can see from the above image, I'm having a little trouble fitting Sarah Paige's goals into the allotted space next to her name. The strokes have been encroaching on Kayla Bailey's territory since mid-season and now we're straying outside the left-hand margin.

There was just one stroke to add on Monday, but it represented the one goal Fort Ann needed to get into the Section II semifinals. The 1-0 win over Germantown will have Fort Ann making the trek to Fonda on Saturday, out near the western flank of Section II.

I did up a short story for the paper on the game, where I noted that Paige has 42 goals for the season and 91 for her career, putting her in line to reach the Century mark next year as a junior. Unless, of course, the Cards make a deep run and it happens in the coming weeks.

But I'm sure neither Paige nor the Cardinals are thinking about individual goals right now. It's win the game any way you can and get to the next stage, which is what the Cards did on Monday.

Monday brought a tougher ending for Salem, which lost a nail-biter after the long journey to Fort Plain, 3-2. The Generals finished 7-7-1, their best season since 2009.

Schedule changes: Click here for our sectional brackets, which should be updated with all of the scheduling changes I'm aware of. If you didn't see the previous blog post about this, the sectional committee basically tried to move all of Tuesday's games to get out of the way of the weather coming our way.

All of the Class C games are moving to Wednesday while the Double-A games move to Thursday. I know the Voorheesville/Mechanicville game in Class B moved to Wednesday, but I was unable to track down info on the Schalmont/Holy Names game. Stands to reason they would move like the other half of the bracket, but until I hear that definitively, it remains a Tuesday game in our schedule.

This movement may actually work in my favor. I have Tuesday and Wednesday off this week, but I need to be in the office Tuesday to get the Section II volleyball brackets online. I could now do a doubleheader on Wednesday now, going to Lake George and then onto Stillwater.

There are two things that worry me: 1. Every time I try to schedule a doubleheader, the first game ends up going to overtime and I'm scrambling to make the second game. 2. There's a laundry basket in my apartment that is overflowing and must be dealt with. Soon.

Indirect kicks: There's about as much chance of my getting to Fort Plain on Saturday as the Giants have of playing in the Super Bowl this season. It'll either be Bill Palmer or a phone call that covers that game. ... I have yet to see Cambridge this year, but Schoharie is a bridge too far, and the upset won't happen if I show up there. If any Cambridge followers would like to text me updates, it's 518-742-0640. Thank you ahead of time.... From Lake George to Stillwater, Googlemaps wants to send me around Saratoga Lake on Route 9P. I don't know about that.
