Price Chopper gutted

The interior of the former Price Chopper in Glens Falls, as it was being gutted last week.

Those of us who work or live in the East End of Glens Falls have been hoping since the Cooper Street Price Chopper store closed that Tops Friendly Markets or some other grocery outfit would wind up there.

Well, Nims Outdoor Services has been busy gutting the building in recent weeks, which to me is a pretty solid sign that a grocer probably isn't going in there. The coolers, displays, registers and all grocery-related equipment has been removed, and it would seem that another grocer could have used at least some of that stuff, even if it is older.

A huge Dumpster of metal was taken away last week.

It's sad seeing that big building sit empty.

Price Chopper spokeswoman Mona Golub said the company was "emptying out the building," but has not said whether there is a new tenant coming. There have been rumors for weeks that another Glens Falls business was going in there, though the owner has denied it when we called him.
