The sports editor of the Amsterdam Recorder called out the Glens Falls boys basketball program and some of its fans in a column published Tuesday that starts out as an "open letter to Glens Falls school Superintendent Paul Jenkins."
"There’s a vocal minority in the Glens Falls community that sings praises of your school’s athletic accomplishments, but in reality, there is a silent majority concerned about its image," reads part of the column.
I don't recall seeing an entire program being called out like this in the media before. But Recorder sports editor Paul Antonelli put it out there, and it will be interesting to see what the reactions will be, particularly with the timing of tonight's game in Amsterdam.
But I will say that I attended the Glens Falls-Gloversville game a couple of weeks ago, another game where some Glens Falls players took some liberties, and was sitting with a guy whose kids have attended school in Glens Falls and played a variety of sports. His comment at the end of the game was, in sum and substance, "I support Glens Falls teams, but honestly they embarrass me sometimes."
