Essex County Republican Chairman Ronald Jackson said he expects there will be a primary next year for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh.

"I can't imagine that there wouldn't be," he said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

So far, Matt Doheny, an investment fund manager from Watertown, is the only candidate actively campaigning for the nomination.

Jackson said no other Republicans have contacted him to discuss running, so far, but he expects Doheny will have opposition for the nomination.

"I've heard from absolutely no one else, but I'm sure we will," he said.
