In an interview after the Washington County Fair cow milking contest on Friday, Republican congressional candidate Matt Doheny would not say whether he will endorse in the Sept. 13 Republican primary between state Sen. Roy McDonald, R-Saratoga, and Saratoga County Clerk Kathleen Marchione.

Q: Anything else going on in the campaign today that folks need to be aware of?

A: “We’re very excited to have our first milking contest here. Obviously it’s nice to see some of the fellow candidates, every one from (state Assemblyman) Steve McLaughlin and on our way through here. So it was exciting to be here.”

Q: Now Mr. McDonald was here. Are you endorsing in that primary? He endorsed you in your (congressional) primary.

A: “Right now, we’re just worried about making sure that we get our message out and work as hard as we can between now and Nov. 2.”

Q: So does that mean you’re not going to endorse in that primary?

A: “We’re going to stay focussed on our own race here, Maury.”
