If you spend enough time in our local rivers and streams, you find some interesting things, natural and unnatural.
I have pulled up sunglasses, hooked cellphones, saw a watersnake about 5 feet long and was harassed by a beaver one night.
A couple of weeks ago, I found a message in a bottle.
I was fishing the Hoosic River, near Eagle Bridge, wading along the rocky shore when I spotted a large glass bottle, similar to a beer growler but clear.
There was something inside it wrapped in clear plastic. I was able to fish it out with a stick, and found wrapped in several plastic bags a couple of napkins with writing on them.
In the notes, a person identifying himself as "Evan Huthinson of Cambridge, N.Y., wrote that he was putting the capsule in the Owl Kill in 2015, and he explained what was going on at the time, such as the top song being Adele's "Hello," debates about global warming and Donald Trump's overtures for a presidential run.
"I hope this bottle is found in as many as 50 years," he wrote.
Well Evan, it appears it made it about two.
I have tried to find Evan the last couple of weeks, asking around with people I know from the Cambridge area if they know him, but I have had no luck. I'm hoping someone who knows him will read this and pass it on.
