WILTON — A storage shed fire Sunday evening left Operation Adopt a Soldier without nearly $2,000 in equipment used for its Haunted Hayride held annually at Gavin Park.
The shed housed electrical equipment, props, decorations and more for the nonprofit's largest fundraiser. The event is held consecutive weekends prior to Halloween at the Wilton park.
The funds from the event are used to ship the hundreds of care packages to U.S. service members who are serving overseas during the holiday season.
According to an article in The Saratogian, the Maple Avenue Fire Department responded to the blaze after a neighbor called 911. The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire which has been deemed suspicious because the shed does not have electricity.
A fund has been setup at Glens Falls National Bank and Saratoga National Bank & Trust Co. made payable to Operation Adopt a Soldier or donations and items may be dropped off at its Route 50 location.
